The modern history of Sestriere took a turn in 1934, when it was completely rebuilt on the territory of the previous municipalities of Champlas du Col, Sauze Cesana and of the small village Borgata Sestriere (separated from the bordering village of Pragelato).
In 1967 Sestriere was the location of the World Cup, when two alpine skiing competitions took place on the steep ski slope "Banchetta".
In the 1930s senator Giovanni Agnelli commissioned the building of two towers (two hotels) on the huge meadows of the village's hill.
In this place were also set up the first two cableways directed to Banchetta and Sises mountains.
This famous winter skiing resort is nowadays known, not only in our country, but also abroad.
